General Francis Omondi Ogolla is a Kenyan citizen by birth. He was the Kenyan Military Officer serving the Nation for one year from April 2023 to April 2024. Francis Ogolla had served as the military since 1984 to 2024.

Biography of Francis Omondi Ogolla

General Francis Ogolla was born 12 February 1962 (Age 62 years old). He joined Kenya Defence Forces in 1984 when he was only 22 years old. His career began as the 2nd lieutenant posted to the Moi Air Base in the Kenya Air Forces where he gained an additional training as a fighter pilot after 1 year. In 2018 Francis Ogolla was appointed as the Commander of the Kenya Air Force.

In 2023, General Ogolla was appointed by H.E President William Ruto as the Chief Of Defence Forces (CDF). This was after the retirement of General Robert Kariuki Kibochi.

CDF Ogolla is a learned man. He holds a Diploma in International Studies and Military Science from Egerton University, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Armed Conflict and Piece Studies and a Masters of Arts in International Studies from University if Nairobi.


Ogolla also attended the Ecole Millitaire De Paris and The National Defence College of Kenya.

He was also awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) and Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) in Kenya.

Gen. Francis Ogolla was married to one wife Aileen Ogolla. They were happily in marriage blessed with two children and one grandchild.

Cause Of Death

On 18th April 2024 at around 2.20pm, the nation was hit by bad news about the Forces Helicopter that crashed in Elgeyo-Marakwet County. The President of the Republic of Kenya Dr. William Ruto called an emergency Security Council meeting.

After two hours of waiting, at 8.10 pm, the President made a state announcement indicating that those involved in the crush was General Francis Ogolla alongside 11 other military personnel.

The Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla unfortunately died alongside other 9 Military officers 2 serving serious injuries.

The helicopter crush occurred when they were on operation Maliza Uhalifu mission in the North Rift Region.
